Using Mathematical Models in Engineering

Terror, Tragedy and Vibrations

Whether you're riding a roller coaster, taking off on a flight, or driving over a bridge, you're putting your faith in mathematics. Maths can be used to describe situations to solve problems in engineering. They can be used in planning and design, assessing risk or making sure things are safe. In this program we look at three mathematical models applied to three different situations; a thrilling roller coaster ride, a high altitude airplane tragedy and a vibrating bridge! In each we discover a mathematical function to describe what's going on and how we can make better products. A practical look at mathematics and just a few of its applications. Presented by Natasha Mitchell.
